read the term &#8220;indie sleaze&#8221; in <em><strong><a href="https://www.dazeddigital.com/fashion/article/54603/1/wtf-is-indie-sleaze-comeback-tiktok-trend-y2k-chanel-saint-laurent-cobrasnake">DAZED</a></strong></em> around Halloween, 2021. I remember the season because the trend piece felt a little like a jumpscare: The movement Pitchfork fostered had returned from the dead, necromanced by Gen Z&#8217;s raised on MP3s.</p><p>&#8220;The [original] Indie Sleaze movement&#8230; championed a hyperactive aesthetic, pulling from the &#8216;80s as much as they did 90s grunge, capturing all the hedonism with spontaneous and provocative flash photography,&#8221; said the piece. &#8220;It was a mish-mash buffet of chucking, smearing, and clashing, and its lodestone was <strong>American Apparel</strong>.&#8221; Now, it was returning as a TikTok aesthetic, spurred on by influencers clocking &#8220;an obscene amount of evidence&#8221; that the old vibes were resurfacing.</p><p>This revival of mid-&#8216;00s party-rocking occurred right at the stir-crazy, wall-climbing, tail-end of lockdown, as people were spilling back into the streets and packing out clubs. It also coincided with a time of renewed cultural sensitivity following a series of long-overdue reckonings: post-social distancing, post-#MeToo. The world was pent up and set to explode, but also wiser, more cautious, on edge. The era of drug-and-sex-fueled DIY club hedonism was long gone, but as for the image and style? We were <em>so back</em>.</p><div class="captioned-image-container"><figure><a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!JSdy!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F9438ebdb-07b3-44de-a79c-0064d56fd284_800x1066.gif" data-component-name="Image2ToDOM"><div class="image2-inset"><picture><source type="image/webp" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!JSdy!,w_424,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_lossy/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F9438ebdb-07b3-44de-a79c-0064d56fd284_800x1066.gif 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!JSdy!,w_848,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_lossy/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F9438ebdb-07b3-44de-a79c-0064d56fd284_800x1066.gif 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!JSdy!,w_1272,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_lossy/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F9438ebdb-07b3-44de-a79c-0064d56fd284_800x1066.gif 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!JSdy!,w_1456,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_lossy/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F9438ebdb-07b3-44de-a79c-0064d56fd284_800x1066.gif 1456w" sizes="100vw"><img src="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!JSdy!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_lossy/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F9438ebdb-07b3-44de-a79c-0064d56fd284_800x1066.gif" width="800" height="1066" data-attrs="{&quot;src&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/9438ebdb-07b3-44de-a79c-0064d56fd284_800x1066.gif&quot;,&quot;srcNoWatermark&quot;:null,&quot;fullscreen&quot;:null,&quot;imageSize&quot;:null,&quot;height&quot;:1066,&quot;width&quot;:800,&quot;resizeWidth&quot;:null,&quot;bytes&quot;:17218234,&quot;alt&quot;:null,&quot;title&quot;:null,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;image/gif&quot;,&quot;href&quot;:null,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:false,&quot;topImage&quot;:false,&quot;internalRedirect&quot;:&quot;https://www.ethernet.fm/i/197378121?img=https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F9438ebdb-07b3-44de-a79c-0064d56fd284_800x1066.gif&quot;,&quot;isProcessing&quot;:false,&quot;align&quot;:null,&quot;offset&quot;:false}" class="sizing-normal" alt="" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!JSdy!,w_424,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_lossy/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F9438ebdb-07b3-44de-a79c-0064d56fd284_800x1066.gif 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!JSdy!,w_848,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_lossy/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F9438ebdb-07b3-44de-a79c-0064d56fd284_800x1066.gif 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!JSdy!,w_1272,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_lossy/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F9438ebdb-07b3-44de-a79c-0064d56fd284_800x1066.gif 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!JSdy!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_lossy/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F9438ebdb-07b3-44de-a79c-0064d56fd284_800x1066.gif 1456w" sizes="100vw"></picture><div class="image-link-expand"><div class="pencraft pc-display-flex pc-gap-8 pc-reset"><button tabindex="0" type="button" class="pencraft pc-reset pencraft icon-container restack-image"><svg role="img" width="20" height="20" viewBox="0 0 20 20" fill="none" stroke-width="1.5" stroke="var(--color-fg-primary)" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><g><title></title><path d="M2.53001 7.81595C3.49179 4.73911 6.43281 2.5 9.91173 2.5C13.1684 2.5 15.9537 4.46214 17.0852 7.23684L17.6179 8.67647M17.6179 8.67647L18.5002 4.26471M17.6179 8.67647L13.6473 6.91176M17.4995 12.1841C16.5378 15.2609 13.5967 17.5 10.1178 17.5C6.86118 17.5 4.07589 15.5379 2.94432 12.7632L2.41165 11.3235M2.41165 11.3235L1.5293 15.7353M2.41165 11.3235L6.38224 13.0882"></path></g></svg></button><button tabindex="0" type="button" class="pencraft pc-reset pencraft icon-container view-image"><svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" width="20" height="20" viewBox="0 0 24 24" fill="none" stroke="currentColor" stroke-width="2" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" class="lucide lucide-maximize2 lucide-maximize-2"><polyline points="15 3 21 3 21 9"></polyline><polyline points="9 21 3 21 3 15"></polyline><line x1="21" x2="14" y1="3" y2="10"></line><line x1="3" x2="10" y1="21" y2="14"></line></svg></button></div></div></div></a><figcaption class="image-caption"><strong>The Dare</strong> backstage at <strong>Primavera Sound</strong> 2025 (by <strong><a href="https://www.instagram.com/maxwellturner/">Maxwell Turner</a></strong>)</figcaption></figure></div><p>It didn&#8217;t take long for music to catch up. One of the first acts to earn the &#8220;indie sleaze&#8221; tag, <strong>the Dare</strong>, channeled the spirits of early &#8216;00s disco-punks like <strong>the Rapture</strong>, <strong>LCD Soundsystem</strong>, and <strong>Radio 4</strong>&#8212; bands who, themselves, had refashioned &#8216;80s post-punk as party music for the post-9/11 years. I remember seeing <strong>the Rapture</strong> at Chicago&#8217;s <strong>House of Blues</strong> then, and being so electrified by how seamlessly they mashed dance rhythms and vintage synths into spiky indie rock that it inspired me to write <a href="https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/6693-echoes/">this certifiably unhinged review</a>, helping catapult their <strong>DFA</strong> debut to the top of Pitchfork&#8217;s best albums of 2003. That record, <em>Echoes</em>,<em> </em>fused rock with electronics so successfully that it now sounds commonplace, but at the time, it was thrillingly new&#8212; one of a few critical flashpoints that ignited an era of dance-punk, bloghouse, and new rave.</p><div class="subscription-widget-wrap-editor" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://www.ethernet.fm/subscribe?&quot;,&quot;text&quot;:&quot;Subscribe&quot;,&quot;language&quot;:&quot;en&quot;}" data-component-name="SubscribeWidgetToDOM"><div class="subscription-widget show-subscribe"><div class="preamble"><p class="cta-caption">Thanks for reading Ethernet.fm! To pony up the cash for a single night of bottle service with your girls. To step out of the club for just <em>one moment</em> and bum an analog burner off that cutie blowing candy-vape clouds on the dance floor. Dream, baby, dream.</p><div id="youtube2-zOeM1TeEcfw" class="youtube-wrap" data-attrs="{&quot;videoId&quot;:&quot;zOeM1TeEcfw&quot;,&quot;startTime&quot;:null,&quot;endTime&quot;:null}" data-component-name="Youtube2ToDOM"><div class="youtube-inner"><iframe src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/zOeM1TeEcfw?rel=0&amp;autoplay=0&amp;showinfo=0&amp;enablejsapi=0" frameborder="0" loading="lazy" gesture="media" allow="autoplay; fullscreen" allowautoplay="true" allowfullscreen="true" width="728" height="409"></iframe></div></div><p>Maybe it&#8217;s for the best that the past stays past: the original era was fucking destructive. I lived in Chicago for much of the &#8216;00s, only moving to New York in 2007, but on my first weekend as a Brooklyn resident, I hit <strong>Studio B</strong> in Williamsburg&#8212; then the unofficial stateside capital of new rave&#8212; to dance to <strong>Simian Mobile Disco</strong> and <strong>Crystal Castles</strong>. Lasers and smoke flew everywhere, lights glowed and flashed in technicolor, guys and girls grinded up on each other in neon shades, shirtless and sweating. I started to notice that hard drugs were always around, wherever I went, and before long, I was meeting people who were visibly fucked on them. By the time the <em><strong>VICE</strong></em> empire crumbled a decade later, enough damage had ripped through these scenes to spark an irreparable backlash.</p><p>If nothing else, it might be wise to update the terminology. &#8220;Indie sleaze&#8221; was coined to denote post-millennial style trends pioneered by low-life predators in high-level positions (<strong>Dov Charney</strong>, <strong>Terry Richardson</strong>, et. al.), and it both trivializes and glamorizes that sordid history of exploitation. It&#8217;s not an especially descriptive sonic classification, either; as with chillwave before it, it&#8217;s a goof that caught on. Like <strong>Memory Tapes</strong>&#8217; <strong>Dayve Hawke</strong> told <em>The Wall Street Journal</em> in a 2010 chillwave primer: &#8220;I wish they&#8217;d come up with a better name if it&#8217;s going to be a real genre.&#8221;</p><div id="youtube2-RtVLNFkLpjw" class="youtube-wrap" data-attrs="{&quot;videoId&quot;:&quot;RtVLNFkLpjw&quot;,&quot;startTime&quot;:null,&quot;endTime&quot;:null}" data-component-name="Youtube2ToDOM"><div class="youtube-inner"><iframe src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/RtVLNFkLpjw?rel=0&amp;autoplay=0&amp;showinfo=0&amp;enablejsapi=0" frameborder="0" loading="lazy" gesture="media" allow="autoplay; fullscreen" allowautoplay="true" allowfullscreen="true" width="728" height="409"></iframe></div></div><p>I won&#8217;t pretend to have the rebrand handy, but we&#8217;re now five years into the &#8220;sleaze revival,&#8221; and its influence and popularity are still accelerating. It could sound like corrupted MP3s streaming off an Iomega Zip drive (<strong>Frost Children</strong>, <strong>MGNA Crrrta</strong>), or a Cybertruck launching through a glass skyscraper, but everywhere you look, the lineage is being scrambled: the grinding, analog grit of <strong>Fakemink</strong> and <strong>2hollis</strong>; the detached cool of <strong>Otha</strong> and <strong>Fcukers</strong>; and increasingly, the dreamy indietronica of acts like <strong>Bassvictim</strong> and <strong>ear</strong>. More and more, the movement is coming to define indie music in the 2020s.</p><p>I&#8217;m amused by how much present-day Pitchfork <a href="https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/frost-children-speed-run/">hates</a> <a href="https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/snow-strippers-night-killaz-vol1-ep/">this</a> <a href="https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/mgna-crrrta-beautiful-disaster/">stuff</a>. Admittedly, not all of it works for me&#8212;certainly not all of it is <em>good</em>&#8212; but I&#8217;m heartened that even the bands I can&#8217;t stand are reconfiguring those serrated, bitcrushed textures in service of pushing music toward its next horizon. There were times during the last decade when indie rock felt like it was becoming a heritage genre, something preserved in amber for a waning festival circuit. But sleaze has acted as a jumper cable, shocking the scene back to life by making it sound as ugly and synthetic as the world around it.</p><p>Frankly, it&#8217;s kind of a relief.<em> </em>I&#8217;d be miserable if indie music had ended up a museum piece; I&#8217;d rather it be a riot. The fact that it&#8217;s mostly made by (and for) much younger people than me only underscores the degree to which it&#8217;s thriving. I love that the old guard is still relevant, still cool, still <em>around</em> to see their DNA mutated by the new guard. And I like how, even in the flashiest, most maximalist sleaze-pop, the old punk spirit shines through. After all, the intersection where high and low culture meet has always hosted the best parties.</p><div class="subscription-widget-wrap-editor" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://www.ethernet.fm/subscribe?&quot;,&quot;text&quot;:&quot;Subscribe&quot;,&quot;language&quot;:&quot;en&quot;}" data-component-name="SubscribeWidgetToDOM"><div class="subscription-widget show-subscribe"><div class="preamble"><p class="cta-caption">Thanks for reading Ethernet.fm! read music criticism, you probably know that Pitchfork started as an outpost for mostly indie rock, standing in opposition to mainstream music culture. But as the site gained readers and influence, indie music began intertwining with pop culture in conspicuous ways.<br><br>At first, it was innocuous, soundtracking coming-of-age arcs in movies and TV series. Then, it became a force for political change, as bands like <strong>Arcade Fire</strong> and <strong>the National</strong> threw their weight behind <strong>Obama</strong>&#8217;s presidential campaign. By the 2010s, indie&#8217;s flagship bands were topping the <em>Billboard</em> charts and sweeping the Grammys&#8212; once-unimaginable feats. Before we knew it, <strong>Kanye</strong>, <strong>Beyonc&#233;</strong>, and <strong>Taylor Swift</strong> were harvesting its talent, threatening to subsume indie into pop music&#8217;s DNA altogether.</p><div class="captioned-image-container"><figure><a class="image-link image2" target="_blank" <em>WEIRD ERA</em> for Pitchfork&#8217;s readers, to demystify the methods behind the machine. But I also wrote it for myself, as a means of returning to the work I love. Some of you may know that I mostly stopped writing for Pitchfork in 2004. This book helped me, finally, to rediscover my voice. Since leaving Pitchfork, I&#8217;ve worked as a media strategist, a public speaker, and an artist consultant, and I still enjoy all of those roles. But it turns out that what I really want to do with my life is the thing I was doing all along.</p><div class="captioned-image-container"><figure><a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!eDtp!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F9bc225d4-aa23-4873-a48e-26d43885565e_1200x600.jpeg" data-component-name="Image2ToDOM"><div class="image2-inset"><picture><source type="image/webp" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!eDtp!,w_424,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F9bc225d4-aa23-4873-a48e-26d43885565e_1200x600.jpeg 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!eDtp!,w_848,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F9bc225d4-aa23-4873-a48e-26d43885565e_1200x600.jpeg 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!eDtp!,w_1272,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F9bc225d4-aa23-4873-a48e-26d43885565e_1200x600.jpeg 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!eDtp!,w_1456,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F9bc225d4-aa23-4873-a48e-26d43885565e_1200x600.jpeg 1456w" sizes="100vw"><img src="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!eDtp!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F9bc225d4-aa23-4873-a48e-26d43885565e_1200x600.jpeg" width="1200" height="600" data-attrs="{&quot;src&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/9bc225d4-aa23-4873-a48e-26d43885565e_1200x600.jpeg&quot;,&quot;srcNoWatermark&quot;:null,&quot;fullscreen&quot;:null,&quot;imageSize&quot;:null,&quot;height&quot;:600,&quot;width&quot;:1200,&quot;resizeWidth&quot;:null,&quot;bytes&quot;:34152,&quot;alt&quot;:null,&quot;title&quot;:null,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;image/jpeg&quot;,&quot;href&quot;:null,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:true,&quot;topImage&quot;:false,&quot;internalRedirect&quot;:&quot;https://www.ethernet.fm/i/191187469?img=https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F9bc225d4-aa23-4873-a48e-26d43885565e_1200x600.jpeg&quot;,&quot;isProcessing&quot;:false,&quot;align&quot;:null,&quot;offset&quot;:false}" class="sizing-normal" alt="" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!eDtp!,w_424,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F9bc225d4-aa23-4873-a48e-26d43885565e_1200x600.jpeg 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!eDtp!,w_848,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F9bc225d4-aa23-4873-a48e-26d43885565e_1200x600.jpeg 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!eDtp!,w_1272,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F9bc225d4-aa23-4873-a48e-26d43885565e_1200x600.jpeg 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!eDtp!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F9bc225d4-aa23-4873-a48e-26d43885565e_1200x600.jpeg 1456w" sizes="100vw" loading="lazy"></picture><div class="image-link-expand"><div class="pencraft pc-display-flex pc-gap-8 pc-reset"><button tabindex="0" type="button" class="pencraft pc-reset pencraft icon-container restack-image"><svg role="img" width="20" height="20" viewBox="0 0 20 20" fill="none" stroke-width="1.5" stroke="var(--color-fg-primary)" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><g><title></title><path d="M2.53001 7.81595C3.49179 4.73911 6.43281 2.5 9.91173 2.5C13.1684 2.5 15.9537 4.46214 17.0852 7.23684L17.6179 8.67647M17.6179 8.67647L18.5002 4.26471M17.6179 8.67647L13.6473 6.91176M17.4995 12.1841C16.5378 15.2609 13.5967 17.5 10.1178 17.5C6.86118 17.5 4.07589 15.5379 2.94432 12.7632L2.41165 11.3235M2.41165 11.3235L1.5293 15.7353M2.41165 11.3235L6.38224 13.0882"></path></g></svg></button><button tabindex="0" type="button" class="pencraft pc-reset pencraft icon-container view-image"><svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" width="20" height="20" viewBox="0 0 24 24" fill="none" stroke="currentColor" stroke-width="2" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" class="lucide lucide-maximize2 lucide-maximize-2"><polyline points="15 3 21 3 21 9"></polyline><polyline points="9 21 3 21 3 15"></polyline><line x1="21" x2="14" y1="3" y2="10"></line><line x1="3" x2="10" y1="21" y2="14"></line></svg></button></div></div></div></a></figure></div><p>So, welcome to <strong>Ethernet.fm</strong>. This newsletter won&#8217;t just be a post-script to <em>WEIRD ERA</em> or a promotional ticker. It&#8217;ll be an extension of my archives and a place to revisit (and re-evaluate) the music Pitchfork covered. It&#8217;ll explore new music I love, offering context for my monthly &#8220;<strong><a href="http://lnk.to/wg25">What&#8217;s Good</a></strong>&#8221; playlists and DJ sets for<a href="https://www.thelotradio.com/shows/ethernet-with-ryan-schreiber/"> </a><strong><a href="https://www.thelotradio.com/shows/ethernet-with-ryan-schreiber/">The Lot Radio</a></strong>. And crucially, it will soon become a home for fresh perspectives from new and familiar voices. This is an excellent time to <strong><a href="https://ethernet.fm/subscribe">subscribe</a></strong>.</p><p>One final note: To celebrate <em>WEIRD ERA</em>&#8217;s completion, and to carve a new path forward, I&#8217;m making an important change. For almost three decades, my identity has been inseparably bound to Pitchfork. In fact, I&#8217;ve been online as &#8220;Ryan Pitchfork&#8221; for almost as long as the web has existed. Today, I&#8217;m retiring that moniker. You can now find me on the web at <strong><a href="http://ryanschreiber.fm">ryanschreiber.fm</a></strong>, and on socials as <strong>@ryanschreiberfm</strong>. (The name change is slightly delayed on <a href="http://instagram.com/ryanpitchfork">Instagram</a>.)</p><p>Thanks to my editor, <strong>Jackson Howard</strong>, for his expert guidance and unwavering belief in this project; to my story editor, <strong>Jayson Greene</strong>, for helping me carry it across the finish line; and to my agent, <strong>William LoTurco</strong>, for making it possible in the first place.</p><p><em><a href="https://us.macmillan.com/books/9780374605506/weirdera/">WEIRD ERA: How Pitchfork Changed Music Forever</a></em> will be in stores on December 1, 2026, from Farrar, Straus &amp; Giroux &#8212; but you can pre-order your copy <a href="https://us.macmillan.com/books/9780374605506/weirdera/">now</a>.</p><div class="subscription-widget-wrap-editor" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://www.ethernet.fm/subscribe?&quot;,&quot;text&quot;:&quot;Subscribe&quot;,&quot;language&quot;:&quot;en&quot;}" data-component-name="SubscribeWidgetToDOM"><div class="subscription-widget show-subscribe"><div class="preamble"><p class="cta-caption">Thanks for reading Ethernet.fm!
